Adopt a Pet

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, thousands of animals are homeless in addition to all of the displaced people. Certainly the people are, and should be, the focus, but they loved their pets and are extremely worried about them. If they can't find the pets they loved (like the little boy in this story), it will be a comfort to them if their pets can find loving homes.

Adopt a Pet

If you're an animal lover, this may be the right way you can help out. Years from now, when the hurricane's effects have come and gone (if the American government puts forth a half-competent effort at helping the victims), you can still feel good about adopting an animal.

I adopted 2 kittens I found on Petfinder.com earlier this year and they are a dream come true. They were given foster homes by a Wisconsin group called Angel's Wish and their foster parents were able to tell me a lot about their personalities and habits so I could pick two kittens who were compatible with me.
